What happens in a pinhole camera workshop?

You get a Both In Time pinhole camera in your hands, expose one negative together with a second person and develop it yourself in the studio. The workshop runs five hours, from arrival to the closing cup of tea.

It starts with the camera: a 0.3 mm hole, no viewfinder, no display. Ten minutes in, you know how it works, and you make your first exposure in the studio. Then the two of you head out into the city. Each person exposes one half of the shared negative, and what the other one chose, you only see in the developer tray.

Back in the studio you mix the developer and watch an image appear under red light for the first time. While the negatives dry, you letter or paint your camera. Tea and conversation close the afternoon.

The developer is called Caffenol: instant coffee, vitamin C and baking soda, all from the supermarket. So the workshop does not end at the studio door. With the Caffenol kit for home, you can do the same in your own kitchen.
