Both In Time · Stuttgart, one afternoon
Five hours, one cardboard pinhole camera, one negative for two. You expose in the studio and in the city, develop in Caffenol and decorate your cameras. You walk home with your camera, the negative and a contact print. As a date, an anniversary, or no occasion at all.
What happens
Arrive, coffee, a short round of introductions. You get your camera in hand and understand in ten minutes how it works: a 0.3 mm hole, no viewfinder, no display. Then you expose the first half of your negative right here in the studio.
We head out in pairs: you and a second person share one negative. Each of you exposes one half: on a corner, in a courtyard, in the light of the Manteuffelstraße. What the other one chose, you only see later. That is exactly the idea.
Back in the studio you mix your own developer: instant coffee, vitamin C, baking soda. Under dim red light you slide the exposed paper into the tray and watch, for the first time, an image appear out of nothing. Then a rinse, and you photograph the wet print straight away.
While the negatives dry, you letter or paint your camera: a name, a date, a small drawing. We make a contact print of each negative for you to take home. Then we look together at what came out: every negative exposed by two people, none by anyone alone.
To close: tea, something to nibble, and time to talk about pinhole cameras, about waiting, about your own image. You leave with your camera, your developed negative, a contact print, and a Caffenol kit for home.
